This spring, the Hedge Fund Club St. Gallen hosted two landmark events that brought the world of hedge funds closer to students in both St. Gallen and Zurich. These evenings offered rare opportunities to engage with top-tier investment professionals and gain real-world insights into a sophisticated and often opaque industry.

On April 23, 2025, the Club welcomed Mr. Raimund Seeholzer, Partner and Co-Head of Liquid Markets Multi-Manager at LGT Capital Partners, to the University of St. Gallen. Representing LGT’s Hedge Fund Investment Team, Mr. Seeholzer provided a unique look into the firm’s investment philosophy and hedge fund strategy. Through two compelling case studies, one analysing the collapse of Archegos Capital Management, the other exploring Convertible Bond Arbitrage in today’s markets, he provided a hands-on perspective on how hedge funds navigate complexity and risk in real time.

The evening concluded with a relaxed apéro riche, generously sponsored by LGT Capital Partners, where students continued their conversations with Mr. Seeholzer in a more informal setting. It was an evening that blended academic curiosity with industry expertise.

Just two weeks later, on May 6, 2025, the Hedge Fund Club officially launched its Zurich chapter with a guest lecture by Mr. Nicolas Mirjolet, CEO and Co-Head of Research at Quantica Capital, held at ETH Zurich. Quantica Capital, a Zurich-based systematic investment manager founded in 2003, specializes in capturing price-based inefficiencies through proprietary trend-following algorithms. During the event, Mr. Mirjolet introduced students to the world of quantitative hedge funds, an area often inaccessible to those outside the industry. He elaborated on Quantica’s research-driven approach, highlighting how dynamic trend-following strategies can generate absolute returns across various market regimes, reduce portfolio volatility, and act as a potential hedge against inflation. Following the presentation, students engaged directly with Mr. Mirjolet in a spirited and insightful Q&A session, making the event not only informative but also highly interactive.

Together, these two events represent the Hedge Fund Club’s mission to foster meaningful connections between students and the hedge fund industry. By hosting leaders from both discretionary and systematic hedge fund backgrounds, the Club continues to create platforms where theory meets practice and academic ambition intersects with global financial expertise. The Hedge Fund Club St. Gallen extends its sincere thanks to Mr. Raimund Seeholzer of LGT Capital Partners and Mr. Nicolas Mirjolet of Quantica Capital for generously sharing their time, insights, and experience with students.
