One year of momentum, insight, and connection, and what’s next for the student-driven initiative shaping hedge fund education

Founded in November 2024 at the University of St.Gallen, the Hedge Fund Club set out with a clear mission: to bring meaningful access to the hedge fund industry into the academic environment. In its first year, the Club has grown into one of the most active and visible student initiatives in the St. Gallen ecosystem, building a bridge between students and professionals through high-quality events, hands-on exposure, and a strong internal team.

Since launch, the Club has attracted almost 400 passive members and built an active core of more than 20 students committed to developing and expanding the platform. In close collaboration with industry leaders, we’ve hosted speakers such as Dr. Dirk Klee (CEO BlackRock Switzerland), Mr. Raimund Seeholzer (Partner at LGT Capital Partners), and Mr. Nicolas Mirjolet (CEO Quantica Capital). Alongside these events, we’ve engaged directly with the industry, as with our visit to Leonteq or Disciplina Asset Management, which provided an inside look at trading operations.

Beyond events, the Club is also building research capabilities with our virtual multi-manager fund. Our internal investment teams have started working on hedge fund strategies across macro, long/short equity, and discretionary approaches. These efforts are part of a broader ambition to make hedge fund education at the university level more relevant, applied, and impactful.

But this is only the beginning.

In the months ahead, the Hedge Fund Club will expand its presence in Zurich. With new professional and social events planned at ETH and UZH, we aim to strengthen our cross-campus reach and provide more access to students beyond St. Gallen. A part of our social commitment is our Bloomberg Terminal campaign, which advocates for improved access to data infrastructure for students at ETH and UZH, a step we view as essential for fostering practical financial literacy.

At the same time, we will continue to grow our base in St. Gallen. More exceptional speaker events are already in development. The goal is to create a lasting institutional presence that continues to offer students access to professionals, insight into the industry, and space to explore complex topics with depth.

Two new initiatives will define our next phase: the launch of a specialized Hedge Fund Knowledge Database, and a Mentoring Platform connecting students with experienced professionals across the industry. These tools are designed to support long-term learning, career orientation, and stronger links between students and practitioners.

The Hedge Fund Club exists to connect theory and practice, create access to knowledge and people, and open the hedge fund world to students ready to engage with it. With a growing team, clear vision, and strong partner interest, we are confident in where we’re heading and excited about what’s next.

A sincerely thank to our 2024/25 team for their exceptional work and dedication throughout this first year. Their initiative, creativity, and commitment have been essential in shaping what the Hedge Fund Club is today. Without their efforts, this platform, and its progress, would not have been possible.
